Walk Grades

Grade C :  2 – 4 hours, a gentle hill walk suitable for younger and new members.

Grade B:   4 -6 hours, for reasonably fit walkers, properly equipped and who have navigation skills.

Grade A:   6 – 12 hours, for experienced fit walkers, with good navigation and survival skills.

Description of event The Sligo Way Union Wood to Slish Wood Scenic Walk is approximately 6 Km in distance and sets out along an old track which ascends uphill through forest. The walk continues onto open upland and commands spectacular views of the surrounding countryside including Lough Dargan, Lough Lumman and the mountain ranges of Slieve Dargan and Slieve Daeane and finishes along a pleasant track through Slish Wood.

How to get there Take the R287 road at Carraroe which takes you on theSligo/ Dromahaire road. Slish Wood car par is signposted on the left
Meeting point Slish Wood car park (bus will take people to the start of walk at Union Wood)
Is pre-registration required? No You can register on the day in Slish Wood car park between 10.45am – 11.00am
Time of event(from when to when?) Departure at 11am from Slish Wood car park ( bus will take people to the start of the walk at Union Wood). Approximately 3 hour walk which includes water stops and lunch break
Duration The Sligo Way Ballygawley to Slish Wood walk – 3 hours (including breaks)
Suitable for The Sligo Way Union Wood to Slish Wood walk is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness and those with appropriate walking boots.
